OMG Plants by Mail?

You can grow plants from seeds indoors, no really!  Indoor herbs, flowers or succulents can grow just fine as long as you know where to start. Make sure to read the seed packet closely. Does it need a special pot or gravel in the bottom? How about when to plant or temperature needs? Container Gardening is a great site with an easy indoor seed starter checklist.

Container Gardening Checklist

OMGHouseplants knows that you have a space that is just waiting for something new. We would love to send you a packet of seeds just because we love our readers. Mint grows easily and is meant to be in a container because it spreads everywhere. Just comment below and you will be entered in our drawing. Mint smells nice, can be used for cocktails and baking. Best of all you could be growing it from your free seed packet! Seeds came from my local nursery and can’t wait to get mailed to you. You can send me a photo when you get them so we can see where they end up.

The dirt on dirt.

You got some new plants? We got the dirt on dirt.

Thanks to Guide to Houseplants Guide to Potting Soil we have the best information to pot your new plant or for re-potting a favorite bloom. The easiest way to think about soil is by the plant you chose. Does the plant have care information that shows a need for indirect light or to be kept moist? Make sure to get a potting mix that has peat moss to keep in moisture. Planting cacti or succulents? Look for a specialized mix that is a bit drier and has perlite (they look like little white dots) because they take in an expel water more quickly.

Got any go to tips? Make your own special mix? Let us know in the comments….

OMG – A Beautiful Mess

Just because a blog post is an older one doesn’t mean you can’t re-live its greatness! OMG Houseplants love A Beautiful Mess and although they are a whole lifestyle blog they featured decorating a new space with houseplants! The links they found helpful were also on point. Choosing plants that are inexpensive and easy to care for was key. OMG Houseplants doesn’t want to alienate people because they don’t have big bucks and neither do the gals who run ABM. It has inspired me to look to all blogs for inspiration and create a true social space for plant lovers by well, spreading the love!

By choosing soft focus and dreamlike photos on their plant journey and then  home to see the plant decoration choices it seems like a friend is helping you along. She chose simple terra cotta pots and a few inexpensive succulents. The plant spacing is calming and shows that it doesn’t take much to add a little green to your space. Bonus is the plants that she chose would thrive easily. The blog also shares her desire to really personalize her space quickly even though there are other small projects that need to be done when you move into a new space. It really reflects the same feeling we have here at OMG Houseplants. Whether you just moved in, want to change your space or start to add plants to your home this is a way to do it easily for very little dough.

Houseplants SRSLY?

Decorating with living things is amazing. When your indoor garden flourishes you know it’s because of your love and care. We also have plants that just don’t make it – maybe we over watered – maybe not enough? Outgrew its pot? OMG Houseplants a place for helpful tips, cool pots and finds for indoor plants and gardens. I can’t wait to show all kinds of cool plants that are easy to take care of and will add some fun to your home and showcase some easy ways to display them in all kinds of décor styles.

My hope is that no matter what your space or budget this will be a place where you find something that interests you enough to recreate it or share the find with a friend. Covering your space with plants doesn’t make you one of the Golden Girls. Although I think Rose would be the one to have the most plants but that is neither here nor there. So OMG Houseplants is simple. It’s a journey to learn more about something I already love.

Let’s start with something simple shall we?
